Charlton Hall | Northumberland, UK.

CHARLTON HALL // is an eccentric stately home that mixes tradition with modern eccentricity. Tucked away on an exclusive 150-acre estate in Northumberland, Grade II* listed Charlton Hall plays host to weddings and private events for those looking to escape the norm.

In terms of character, this place has bags of it. Inspired by the "Alice in Wonderland adage of being entirely bonkers", not only does Charlton Hall have great historic charm, it's also filled with gorgeous contemporary touches and modern decor.

We spent a glorious afternoon bouncing around the house with our cameras, marvelling at the level of detail that has gone into this truly remarkable space. Charlton Hall has been designed to perfection down to every little detail and has definitely been curated with partying in mind. It even has its very own nightclub tucked away downstairs in an old wine cellar. Their distinctive interior design was led by Jo Aynsley of award-winning Jeffrey’s Interiors of Edinburgh who have created a truly gorgeous place like no other.

THE DRAWING ROOM // A luxurious place to rest and have a moment to take it all in. It's luxury, it's glamour, and it's utterly, utterly fabulous. This statement ceiling features a baroque paper from La Maison Pierre Frey, reproducing scenes adapted from the works of Francois Boucher and Giambattista Tiepolo. I'll take an Aperol Spritz per favore.

The eclectic space plays host to an ensemble of vibrant velvet sofas, those opulent ostrich feather lamps we've been lusting over for AGES, and Charlton Hall's original grand piano of which they invite those tempted to play. We've found that everyone's a virtuoso pianist by about 11pm! What could be more luxurious than sitting in style in a gorgeous reupholstered armchair whilst looking onto the Northumbrian countryside, and watching who rolls up to the gaff. The fact that it's exclusive use, means that everyone who does will be on your guest list.

THE BAR // Because no good story starts with ordering a glass of water. If you fancy something a little more traditional, but with Charlton Hall's signature flair, their stunning bar provides you and your guests a huge array of choice to whet their whistle. They serve the very best international and local ales, an extensive selection of fine wines and beautifully crafted spirits to please any crowd.

THE HALLWAY // The epic staircase is flooded with natural light, with futuristic chrome domes lining the wall, framing their resident steampunk giraffe, George. It's bizarre, surreal, and absolutely perfect.

THE LIBRARY // Never one to follow convention in a house that makes its own rules, Charlton Hall breaks traditional library protocol by encouraging guests to be raucous with their laughter and energetic with their conversation. Their vibrant soft furnishings are adorned by cheeky House of Hackney characters, which are offset with contrasting vivid yellow leather chairs and complementary Gung-Ho bee cushions that can be found scattered throughout. A large-scale chandelier sets off the ingenious play of light and shadow here to create real depth and imagination within the library.

This is one room to let your voice and imagination run wild!

THE BREAKFAST ROOM // Inspired by British photographer, Tim Walker, shadows and detail are the name-of-the-game, as they've dressed the dining room in pretty Harlequin-Sumi wallpaper. Its angular, geometric design works incredibly well in here, as it playfully cascades down from the ceiling to the base of the original hand-painted floors.

As if this isn’t opulent enough, Andrew Martin’s sheers make an ethereal appearance in the breakfast room, where they elegantly drape from each of the vast Georgian windows. These drapes help drench the breakfast room with natural sunlight and reflect off the opposing wall of mirrors.

A truly sumptuous space to indulge in their culinary delights.

THE COURTYARD // A short walk through the magical gardens and you arrive at the Ceremony Hall; a space filled with awe and wonder. Striking geometric floor patterns swoon you in, juxtaposing period stone walls draped in twinkly fairy lights to create a warm and romantic glow for your wedding venue. This really is the best place you could possibly say ‘I do'.

THE CEREMONY HALL // Where the magic happens. As you reach the end of the aisle, you’ll be greeted by an oasis of greenery, with splashes of white hydrangea and lilac hanging from the living wall. This creates a magical backdrop to say your vows against. And did we mention your wedding ceremony will be presided over by a monocle sporting zebra?

THE LOOS // Your bathroom selfie game is about to seriously level up. Trust and believe.

THE LOOKING GLASS// As photographers, we are always chasing the light and The Looking Glass has it pouring in, in spades. It's a beautiful, versatile space which delivers on both new and old, by mixing materials and textures, with glass, steel and sandstone all working together in perfect, offbeat harmony.

Silver light installations illuminate gently from within and as day turns to night, a galaxy of shooting stars emerges from a black ceiling. With magnificent countryside views and traditional, minimalist exterior, The Looking Glass is captivating both inside and out.

THE VAULTS// When we were teenagers, we'd dream of having our very own nightclub in the basement & these guys have frickin' done just that. It's dark, cool and sexy and has a vintage jukebox filled with bangers that will keep going as long as you do.

THE BEDROOMS// Where the other magic happens. Now we love a sexy bedroom, and what's sexier than silk, gold and hot pink neon? Throw in some leather and leopard print and you've got The Sexiest Boudoir Photos Ever. & we promise not to tell anyone that you've got animal print lingerie on underneath your dress... Expect maybe the groom...

There are 6 distinctive bedroom suites for your besties to fight over, each one nestled within the hall has it's own aesthetic and character, and are named after the owner's own nearest and dearest.

We're talking roll-top baths, vast chandeliers and lux fabrics from the likes of Mulberry, Pierre Frey, House of Hackney, Manuel Canovas, Emma J Shipley and Diane von Furstenburg. It's luxury with the volume turned up to 11.

Until next time Charlton. We can't wait. ✌🏻

“Charlton Hall doesn’t follow anybody else’s path. We make our own rules, curate our own story and create our own myth. Our vision is to give guests who stay here a fun, luxurious and home-from-home experience that will serve you with life-long memories.

When we renovated Charlton Hall, my vision was to bring it back to life. To create a wonderland of glamour adorned with bold colours, hand-painted interiors and restored antiques as an enchanted place for guests to marry, party and entertain. I believe what we have created is one of the most luxurious venues in the North”.
